Malificent, an illicit comic book magnate, earned all his money the old fashioned way: he inherited it. Using his vast wealth, he turned to the pornographic comic book industry and turned it from an industry hiding in the dark recesses to a multi-billion dollar industry that is in the mainstream and even has a few graphic novels up for movie production.
As far as the FOBL, Malificent originally brought baseball to Durham to counter the overriding influence that college basketball had in the North Carolina area. That failed miserably, even with a Solecismic Series championship in 2006. So now he just uses the team as his personal hobby, dabbling with various strategies and shuffling players here and there for his own amusement.
Feared and respected throughout the organization, players and managers alike know that he only accepts winning. Except when they need to be losing, and then he only accepts losing. Chaos reigns in the Durham organization, and that's the way he likes it.
