| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 19th, 2030: Week's Top Performer Honored by JL
Orlando Canó punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the JJ League Player of the Week award.
The Roanoke Rapids catcher slashed out a .375 average with 9 hits in 24 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs.
This season Canó is hitting .248 with 9 home runs.

 | Wednesday, July 31st, 2030: Hot Hurler Chills Out on Rapids
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Flounders manager told reporters after today's game.
The Rapids ran into a buzzsaw as Joshua Jaramillo cut them down to size 7-0 with a 3-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Cape May hurler doled out no walks and registered 5 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Joshua goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Jaramillo also got some praise from the Roanoke manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
On his stats sheet this season Jaramillo shows a 11-4 record, 20 starts, 150.1 innings, 127 strikeouts and a 2.81 ERA.

 | Monday, July 1st, 2030: June's Best Hurler in JL is Mondragon
In June when the Roanoke manager wrote the name "Mondragon" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Carlton Mondragon took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.
He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 2.13 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Rapids star pitched 42.1 innings, fanned 29 and held opposing teams to a .203 average.
For his outstanding mound performance Mondragon was named the JL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.
On his stats sheet this season Mondragon shows a 8-5 record, 14 starts, 101.1 innings, 73 strikeouts and a 3.11 ERA.
