Lonnie McCoy bent a little, but he didn't break against the Beetles. The Death Valley pitcher hurled a 3-hit 3-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 2 walks and putting up no strikeouts.
"Lonnie is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on-base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
In 10 starts this season McCoy has rung up a 8-7 record and a 3.35 ERA.

 | Saturday, August 23rd, 2031: Muncie Shuts out Burn, Boyer Winner
Ernie Boyer of the Muncie Squires was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Death Valley Burn with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 4-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Death Valley skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Muncie hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.
Boyer told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
On his stats sheet this season Boyer shows a 3-1 record, 9 starts, 61 innings, 43 strikeouts and a 2.66 ERA.

Jared Rutherford, the 20-year-old Cook County hurler, tamed the Death Valley Burn 1-0 at Busts Ballpark today. He limited them to 5 hits while fanning 2 and walking 1.
In 2031 Rutherford has compiled a 10-10 mark with a 2.83 ERA in 22 starts.
