| Breaking News | | Thursday, August 21st, 2036: Quincy Befuddled by Douglas Ty Douglas was downright nasty in pitching a 5-0 shutout against Quincy. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Quinkies were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 3-hit shutout the Prisoners hurler chalked up 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This year Douglas has compiled a 5-11 record with a 3.58 ERA. | | Thursday, July 24th, 2036: Hamshanks Chill Nelson's Hot Streak Zach Nelson's hit streak ended at 21 games today as the Grizzlies second baseman went 0-for-5 in a 12-4 loss to the Hamshanks.
"It's one of those things," Nelson said. "It just didn't happen. I guess it was my day not to get a hit."
Nelson is hitting .362 in 2034 with 1 home run, 35 RBIs and 52 runs scored. He has 113 hits in 312 at-bats and played in 73 games. | | Sunday, July 6th, 2036: Viitaluoma Slams 5 Hits for Stevens Point It was a big day with the bat for Unto Viitaluoma of the Stevens Point Troondonts at Troondonts Ballpark as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Andersonville 14-7.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 5 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Viitaluoma had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Troondonts had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
U. Viitaluoma singled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off K. Fowler in the 9th.
To date, Viitaluoma has collected 10 hits for a .435 average. He has posted 3 home runs, scored 5 runs and driven in 9 runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Joaquín Pérez | bruised shoulder | 4 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 49-81, .377 PCT | | Position in Division | 8th, 35.0 GB | | Record at home | 32-33, .492 PCT | | Record on the road | 17-48, .262 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-8, .273 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-24, .429 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 13-25, .342 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-56, .391 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record in June | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in July | 6-23, .207 PCT | | Record in August | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in September | 5-4, .556 PCT |
