At Eagles Ballpark today Edinburgh blitzed the Manchester Jets 2-0 on a route-going gem by Willie Atkins. He blanked them on a 3-hitter and had 1 strikeout in the contest.
In 13 starts this year Atkins has fashioned a 3-5 record and a 2.90 ERA.

 | Friday, August 22nd, 2031: Gonzáles Gets 5 Hits
After the Wilmington 12-6 victory over Edinburgh and his 5-hit day first baseman Salvador Gonzáles told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 18-year-old player gained that distinction today at Ballpark of Wilmington with a spectacular 5 for 6 game against the Edinburgh Eagles.
The skipper of the Bankers spoke glowingly of Gonzáles, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Salvador did that to perfection today."
S. Gonzáles singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off W. Miller in the 9th.
Gonzáles has a .295 average and a .354 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 132 hits, 5 home runs and driven in 36 runs.

 | Sunday, August 17th, 2031: Thoday Mystifies Edinburgh
Ashley Thoday of Toronto easily handled the Edinburgh Eagles, stopping them on 3 hits and chucking a complete-game 8-0 shutout.
"He really did a job on us," said the Edinburgh manager. "He had good command of his pitches. He changed speeds well and pretty much confused us. We never could zero in on him, but he certainly zeroed in on us."
Thoday said, "Everything was working for me. Throwing my breaking stuff over the plate was big."
He finished the game with 2 strikeouts and no walks in a solid outing.
In 2031 Thoday has a 7-7 record with a 2.28 ERA.
