The Stafford League made it official today -- Vern Hughes of the Toronto Maple Leafs is the Pitcher of the Month. In August he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.
Hughes made 6 starts, registered 4 wins and 2 losses with a solid 2.18 ERA. In 41.1 innings he allowed 37 hits, racked up 29 strikeouts, walked 13 and permitted teams to hit .240 against him.
So far in 24 starts this season, Hughes has recorded 11 wins and sustained 7 losses. He has pitched 165 innings, yielded 163 hits, fanned 107 and has a 3.71 ERA.

 | Thursday, August 29th, 2030: Wallace Strong Arms Agriculturalists in Shutout
Brad Wallace of the Toronto Maple Leafs was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Easton Agriculturalists with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 6-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Easton skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Toronto hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 4 hits in his complete game effort.
Wallace told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
His record this season is 9-5 in 24 starts and Wallace has a 3.67 ERA.

 | Monday, July 29th, 2030: Toughest Out of the Week Wins SL - A Award
Stafford League pitchers tried and tried all week long to stop Ángel Quiñones, but to no avail.
His eyes would light up when he came to the plate and he hit everything in sight, batting .545 for the week to win the SL - A Player of the Week Award. The Toronto left fielder cracked 12 hits in 22 at-bats, 1 home run, drove in 1 runs and scored 4 times.
This year Quiñones has collected a .334 batting average to date with 108 hits in 323 at-bats, 37 RBIs, 2 home runs and scored 43 times. He has played in 84 games.
