If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Monty Meyer showed how it's done as he went 5 for 5 against the Edinburgh Eagles and helped the Northampton Herrells beat them 5-1.
The manager for the Eagles told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Meyer keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.

Clarence Day left little doubt in the minds of Read League officials that he should be named August's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.
"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Day. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."
The 19-year-old tossed 56.2 innings of quality baseball -- going 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 52 strikeouts.
Checking out his stats for the year, Day has racked up 11 wins and 9 losses in 31 starts, 2.33 ERA and struck out 178 batters in 185.1 innings.
