| Breaking News | | Wednesday, August 29th, 2035: Great Day for Woods -- 5 Hits It was a good day for the Columbus Road Hogs as they dumped the Flemington Nightwings 9-6 at Nightwings Ballpark. Despite the loss it was a remarkable day for Nightwings Norm Woods, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5-for-5 barrage.
The Flemington second baseman told reporters afterward, "I have mixed emotions about this game. Getting 5 hits is really something special, but losing the ballgame spoils it to a certain extent. It's sort of like the feeling you get when your mother-in-law drives over a cliff in your new sports car."
Quizzed by the press corps about his personal hitting theories, he responded, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm 'not dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple... try not to overthink it. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then in a split second decide to try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
N. Woods doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
So far this year in 117 games Woods is hitting .253 with 3 home runs, 48 RBIs and 43 runs scored. | | Saturday, August 11th, 2035: Castillo Belts Bunch of Base Hits It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Wilson Castillo. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Castillo went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Columbus pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Ballpark of Cape May, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. And the Cape May Flounders had a 13-5 victory over the Road Hogs.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
W. Castillo singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off P. Genge in the 7th.
In the current season, Castillo has put up a .262 batting average with 111 hits, 10 home runs, 46 runs batted in and scored 83 runs. | | Sunday, August 5th, 2035: Stewart Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle Bernie Stewart produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Potomac Pop Rocks in the Columbus 7-4 win at Ballpark of Columbus.
Afterward, Stewart acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Road Hogs just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game."
On his historic day, he went 4-5 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.
B. Stewart tripled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off C. Harvey in the 9th.
Looking at his 2035 season stats, Stewart has compiled a .199 batting average in 87 games with a .280 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 18 runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 58-72, .446 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 17.0 GB | | Record at home | 31-34, .477 PCT | | Record on the road | 27-38, .415 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-24, .385 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 11-11, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 47-61, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 10-16, .385 PCT | | Record in July | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in August | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in September | 3-1, .750 PCT |
