 | Wednesday, July 24th, 2030: Zielke Collects Cycle "How sweet it is when the sweet part of the bat makes contact with the baseball. It's music to my ears." That's how Cornell Zielke, the Janesville first baseman, described what happened in today's 12-8 victory over the Wildwood Bluefish -- hitting for the cycle.
In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a natural cycle.
"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Wildwood pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats, and his name will now go into the record book.
C. Zielke hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off I. Diez in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and hit a two-run double in the 7th.
Zielke is swinging at a .302 pace on the year with 11 home runs, 57 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has played in 91 games. | |
