Stafford League News Article | | | Tuesday, June 4th, 2030: Dudley Clips Icebergs for Cycle! Hitting for the cycle is defined as hitting a single, double, triple and home run in the same game. How often does that happen? Not very often, especially considering that a cycle is a microcosm of what makes a complete hitter: power (homer), speed (triple), and average (four hits). That doesn't mean that everyone that hits for the cycle is a complete hitter, except perhaps during that particular game.
Well, Cory Dudley is a complete hitter -- at least for one ballgame. Today he hit for the cycle to lead El Paso Beetles to a 16-5 win over the Anchorage Icebergs. All told in the game Dudley delivered 4 hits in 5 at-bats.
He admitted to the press in the postgame interview, "Actually the first three hits were sort of lucky. But I knew what I needed to complete the cycle. And you know, I got exactly what I wanted. Lotta luck in hitting for the cycle."
C. Dudley struck out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off S. Pagé in the 6th, walked in the 8th and doubled in the 8th.
Currently Dudley is batting .393 with 33 hits and 1 home run. He has knocked in 16 runs and scored 16 times. | |
