It seemed that South Beach catcher Jesús Silva could do no wrong as the Bums kayoed the Ball Bearings 13-6 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 9 at-bats. Clifton Heights pitchers couldn't get him out as Silva seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Bums were stealing signs." growled one unhappy Clifton Heights fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play." exclaimed the jubilant Silva in the postgame press interview.
J. Silva hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th, grounded out in the 14th, singled in the 17th and hit a two-run double in the 18th.

After whitewashing the Northampton Herrells at Bums Ballpark 6-0 he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments. "I'm just glad to be here. I want to help the club any way I can. Today I just went right at the Northampton as hard as I could, as long as I could."
Perry chalked up 9 strikeouts and allowed no walks in his superb performance.
The South Beach manager had his own analysis of the ballgame: "I don't think we could have hit him with a howitzer today."
When asked for a comment on how this might bolster the club's race for the pennant, the South Beach manager said, "We're going to take the season one game at a time, guys."
Perry has gone 12-5 this season with an ERA of 2.87 and 168 strikeouts in 163 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .220 against him. | | | | | Yesterday's Games | | Read League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | South Beach | Clifton Heights | 13-6 | 7:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | B.Blair (0-2, 5.91 ERA) | | Quincy | Washington Heights | 5-2 | 7:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | W.Sartika (10-9, 3.47 ERA) | | Albany | Wilmington | 16-5 | 7:05 pm | D.Flowers (9-4, 2.29 ERA) | M.Alba (2-7, 5.12 ERA) | | Northampton | Nashua | 1-0 | 7:05 pm | E.Graham (5-5, 4.21 ERA) | C.Lutz (7-5, 2.82 ERA) | | New York | Trenton | 8-6 | 7:05 pm | D.Meyers (2-1, 3.24 ERA) | R.García (4-3, 2.91 ERA) | | Kane | Manchester | 4-2 | 7:05 pm | G.Gilbert (6-4, 3.74 ERA) | Z.Young (2-6, 3.50 ERA) | | | Today's Games | | Read League | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | South Beach (69-41, Road: 31-23) | Clifton Heights (51-59, Home: 30-21) | 7:05 pm | RHP T.Perry (12-5, 2.87 ERA) | RHP T.Aldrey (8-7, 2.96 ERA) | | Quincy (79-31, Road: 33-21) | Washington Heights (49-61, Home: 27-30) | 7:05 pm | RHP T.Chapman (4-2, 3.01 ERA) | RHP M.Flores (5-9, 2.79 ERA) | | Albany (60-50, Road: 27-27) | Wilmington (42-68, Home: 24-30) | 7:05 pm | LHP C.Turner (1-1, 4.07 ERA) | LHP B.Watkins (3-11, 3.43 ERA) | | Northampton (46-64, Road: 23-34) | Nashua (53-57, Home: 38-19) | 7:05 pm | RHP D.Johnson (5-6, 1.62 ERA) | RHP R.Turner (1-3, 2.40 ERA) | | New York (45-65, Road: 21-33) | Trenton (60-50, Home: 34-20) | 1:05 pm | RHP B.Payne (8-7, 2.45 ERA) | RHP D.Ford (8-8, 2.90 ERA) | | Kane (59-51, Road: 24-33) | Manchester (47-63, Home: 25-32) | 7:05 pm | RHP B.Atkins (4-10, 4.37 ERA) | RHP J.Whitehead (9-14, 4.95 ERA) | | |
