Orlando Canó punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the JJ League Player of the Week award.
The Roanoke Rapids catcher slashed out a .375 average with 9 hits in 24 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs.
This season Canó is hitting .248 with 9 home runs. |

The most recent recipient of the Hype League Player of the Week Award is first baseman Rodrigo Montoya of Anchorage.
Montoya showed great patience at the plate, collecting 12 hits in 26 at-bats as he compiled a .462 average, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Thus far in 2030 Montoya is batting .313 with 15 home runs, 71 RBIs and 78 runs scored. |
 | Sunday, August 18th, 2030: Nicholas Superb Against Vertigo
Gary Nicholas shut 'em down and shut 'em out, hurling Duluth past Vertigo 2-0 in a complete game victory.
He told SION sportswriters in the postgame interview, "This is a game of adjustments and I made some good ones in this game."
Nicholas held the Vertigo Bellringers without a run, tossing a 3-hitter while walking 1 and fanning 5.
To date this season Nicholas is 9-4 with 12 starts and an ERA of 4.21 with 92 strikeouts in 113.1 innings. |
