His teammates, fans, peers and even the SION sportswriters all agreed that Jim Bright was worthy of the Pina League Player of the Week Award.
During the week the Silicon Valley third baseman compiled a .519 batting average (14-27) with 1 home run, 4 runs batted in and scored 7 runs.
So far this season Bright is batting .271 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has 26 hits in 96 at-bats, 12 walks and a .349 OBP. Bright has played in 24 games. |

The Horsham St. Faith manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
He was talking about Paul Walker, who had just hurled a fine 4-hit shutout over the Pasadena Voodoo. He had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in the Horsham St. Faith 5-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the Pasadena manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
In 19 starts this year Walker has fashioned a 9-5 record and a 3.51 ERA. |

"Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Bill Roache of the Monterey Sea Otters described his shutout victory over the Saint John Moose Brewers. Roache blanked them 1-0 on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2.
Roache has made 16 starts this season, posting 7 wins and 7 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .355 against him and he has 26 strikeouts in 93 innings with a 7.06 ERA. |
