Front Office Baseball League News Article | | | Friday, August 9th, 2030: Hughes Batters Poughkeepsie Big Time! Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Frank Rizzo Memorial Stadium when Darrell Hughes of Philadelphia scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Poughkeepsie Paladins.
He was down and a little subdued with mixed feelings in the postgame interview. "It was a good day for me, but not a good day for the Billyclubs. The bottom line in baseball is to win. We didn't do it today," he told the press after the game.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career day performance, but it was the Paladins, who won the ballgame 10-6.
However, the right fielder of the Billyclubs did have this to say: "My swing was really, really there today. I made some good, solid contact and when that happens...good things happen. Sure, 5-5 and losing is better than going 0-5 and losing. I'll take 2-4 and a win and be overjoyed. I ain't greedy."
D. Hughes singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off B. Pilcher in the 9th.
This season in 115 games, Hughes has hit at a .279 clip with 124 hits, 21 home runs, 73 RBIs and 86 runs scored. | |
