FOBL Stats HQ -- After 76 games, the Capital City Metropolitans are sitting pretty atop the Best Damn Division in Fake Baseball with a sizzling 54-22 record. Their offense is tepid, however, registering 10th in the VL in run generation. Only a single Cap City hitter is managing an average above .300 (venerable Jose Castillo is at .313), and the team OBP is a mediocre .322.
And yet they are clearly among the best teams in baseball. The reason is obvious, of course. Pitching. Capital City lost mega-Ace Kyle Faller to their division rivals during the FA period, but took a quick elementary school math course and realized two > one, then went out and signed Dominic Mota and Edward Spinelli to go with returning arms Manny Gonzalez and Jim Perce to form a deep, deep rotation. The result has been astronomical. Last year Buddy's squad gave up 647 runs, third best in the VL behind Philadelphia (618) and Utica (624). This year, the Philly staff projects to end the season at 567, a massive reduction off their already fine total. Utica is set to repeat their 2034 numbers at 622. But Capital City...holy freaking cows...is on target to allow only 490 runs, a 157-run, 24% reduction. Their team ERA is 2.62. Opponents are hitting .224 against them. They've dropped their BABIP by 29 points. It would be interesting to go back through history ans see how this performance compares to other teams, but thats a heckofalotta work. So, we'll leave it at this...did anyone catch the number of that bus that's run over the DT?

I am not sure about my elementary math skills or my memory ...... but, I thought GRE lead the VL in runs allowed last year with 555 runs allowed.

The Mets keep plugging along. That's one great pitching staff Buddy has assembled.
The WC appears to be coming back to the DT, too. Bandits is gonna need a bigger boat to chase CAP and LOS down.

Good article Ron. This near zero-offence Mets squad has had horseshoes up their asses all season, and it simply cannot last
