I feel like I've been on both ends of this new money situation.
Winning the division but NOT the SS, and winning the SS but NOT the division.

I also benefitted from the old system a few times too.
I like the newer setup better.
I think it rewards teams more for being consistently good than for catching lightning (sorry C) in a bottle for a few series.
It also allows GM's to better predict their finances, which comes in handy at the trade deadline (I wouldn't have picked up Whitfield at the deadline if I didn't think that 1st or 2nd place were a definite possibility).

Absolutely agreed on the trades - I made some deals banking on the fact that I would be making more money. Had there been the chance (playoff crapshoot) that I might not, I would have been more hesitant and probably nixed some of the deals I made.

What I'm most concerned about is if owners think that they are still able to be upwardly mobile/can hop aboard the rebuild cycle and that it isn't too hard to unseat the teams at the top. I want to gauge if owners think it sets up teams to be too dynastic -- though that might be tough to tell from only four seasons (and, some teams like DUR have emerged and broken through, and others have bounced up against the 20M cap with no problem).

I like this, Cuerv. And this is coming from someone who finished 3rd 3 times and making less money than I would have in the earlier model.

I'm a bit inclined to view the slope in money from 1st to 4th as a bit too steep, but I honestly can't tell if that's subjective or not. I still think I'd prefer a bit less of a curve from 1st to 4th, or at least a bit of a bone for coming up with an upset in the first round.

Come on, Cubbsie. You know you had a bone from that first round upset.

Seriously though, I don't think you can tell much from 4 seasons. I think we need to go through a few cycles to find that out. If in 10 years, Doc has won 5 more, then maybe there is something to it. Right now I just see very well built teams from several of our best owners and they are all coming to a head. I mean the top two in each division are like the who's who of owners. Add in IND and ARZ and you have probably 10 of the best owners OF ALL TIME. Really though, I think it is more that than anything. Also looking at the payout breakdown over the last few years. Was the payout really all that different?

Yeah, it occurred to me after posting that I might have run the numbers as they'd have been under the old system for comparison. This season I'd have still made 3.8M, for instance (and I think Doc would have made even more at 4.6M - MBJ would have killed either system, really).

To be clear: I'm not advocating change. I just wanted to get a quick pulse on how everyone thought this was working out.

Yeah, that's the one before the playoff bonuses and any other adjustments. I'm working on the one which includes them.

I also would have benefited more under the old system and prefer this one. Rewards regular season performance over playoff flukiness (especially when playoff wins are very much their own reward, vs. who cares who finishes 2nd vs. 3rd?)

The bigger cash prize for winning the division has been good for Capital City, but I suspect it probably hurts league wide parity. There are always some teams that have a peak period of 90-95 wins after rebuild years and the old system provided those teams with more cash, which in turn allowed them to be competitive for an extra few seasons before going back to another rebuild.
