Default Official 2043-2044 Hall of Fame Discussion: Toshitsugu Koda

    Toshitsugu Koda

    HR: 386, RBI: 1282, 122 SB

Toshitsuga Koda was a precocious kid who splashed his way onto FOBL's big stage at 21, and looked like a star for a lot of seasons. He won a ring with Hollywood, and went on several hitting streaks of 20+ games. He appeared in 8 All-Star games. Then in 2040 (at age 33) something happened, and two years later Kodo was out of baseball. Interesting. Utterly brilliant for ten seasons--probably not enough to make it, but that arc is worth a conversation, eh?

I'm voting yes. He was brilliant for long enough.

He was huge for us that championship year. Not sure where I stand on the HoF.

Wow, such an abrupt career end (a successful banination to A-ball by Subby to get out from under his contract, it looks like). He was fantastic when he played, but I'm not sure he played quite long enough (though at least he did start fairly early).

This is the kind of guy for whom I would lean toward voting. I prefer guys who are excellent for a shorter period to those who are very good for a longer period.

I'm not sure why he is listed as a catcher - he was a corner OF who put up corner OF numbers. Someday we may regret some of the weaker early FOBL OF's we voted into the hall, but I would not regret voting Koda in.

    Career .934 OPS in almost 7500 ABs? I think he's a shoo-in.

He's probably listed as a C because Subby was trying to force him into retirement.

Following a similar model to the one used by Montego Bay to force Domonic Mota into retirement.

152 OPS+ (well, according to Markus) and he goes from 60% to 41% to off the ballot. Harsh, man. Harsh.

Resurrected for what will be considered a 4th ballot by the new standards for ballot inclusion.

Koda is one of my pet projects; for 8 years, he was one of FOBL's best players. By my All-FOBL teams, it is unprecedented that someone with his number of first teams isn't in the Hall of Fame. One of FOBL's best hitters for the 30s. Will absolutely get my vote.

I think some of it is timing. He was put into ballots filled with sure-fire hall of famers. I think with the class a little down, he'll get in this time.

If Koda is a HOF guy and I would probably vote for him, but then Guy "The Chef" Mcree should be too.
