Thank you Cubs, I was not aware of this.

These teams should be rewarded. That's the purpose of a bonus.

Deferral is simple to implement, doesn't give anybody an unfair competitive advantage, and lets the teams that earned their bonus keep their bonus in a predictable manner.
It's not a penalty if you're proactive with your finances. To me it's up to the owners to keep track of their finances. By adding the deferral in you shift some the responsibility to the BoGs. Shaw and Cuervo already do way more than most of us realized.

Right - the $23M was a number that worked with the amounts I came up with and with the extra rounds (rather than $1M for each participant and each series win). It used to be $15M.

I'm wary of taking more money out of the system for the normal financial system, but I'm game for almost anything that moves more revenue into the regular season vs. the playoffs.

But by taking this stance, you are giving a stiff advantage (heh hehhhehehee... stiff) to the engaged/active/smart/clairvoyant owner (or in reality, a good guessing owner), which a bunch of guys on here have argued against.

If Cuervo is able to do it, which I'm not 100% certain about, a deferral would allow a team that is not certain about its season finish months in advance to receive the bonus that they earned. They still have the option of pre-spending it if they choose.

Honestly, I know we are 32 completely different personalities, backgrounds, viewpoints... but it's very hard to believe that anybody would really be strongly against this idea. Unless Cuervo came out and said "dude, it's too big of a pain in the ass. it can't be done". Which I haven't heard yet.

Funny, that is exactly what I'm trying to do as well. I just feel that with the deferred money, you are giving the engaged/active/smart/clairvoyant owner more money to play with. Without the deferred money they HAVE to spend the money, or they get fined that year. With a deferred system you are able to hold on to your money for something bigger that comes along. For me what I look at when there are any suggestion made about the financial system are to 2 things 1) is spending, as in are we going to spend more and 2) parity. The deferred system either doesn't change or doesn't help either.

Dola. I used the wrong word. Not parity. What I meant was that I want to see everyone get a chance to win titles.

I would love for a proposal to come out of this and be voted on prior to 2048 starting....

(Of course, it wouldn't take effect until some date in the future)

Honestly, we have some ideas floating out there. Seems like the BOG should take this thread, and come up with what they consider to be a consensus thing to vote on.

I would suggest that we separate out different proposals into different votes, though (for example, have one vote for financial changes, one for draft order changes, one for playoff berth changes, etc.)

Starting this up again for the new year...

I really like aspects of this and Duke's proposals. I want the cash bonus to be for regular season finish, but I'd like some bonus for playoff performance.

    2nd place: $2 million
    3rd place: $1 million
    4th place: $500K

Each place finisher gets twice as much money as the finisher behind him. Very symmetrical. Enough to make you want to finish higher.

I'd also say the LCS winners should get $500K each, and the SS winner gets $500K each.

Finally, because of our new amendment, we can allow deferment of cash payout. If a team is near the cap, let them defer their bonus until opening day of the following season if they choose. BUT it has to be all or nothing. You can't keep $1 million and defer $3 million. This will add another little layer of financial strategy.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought Cuervo said the $23 million was an arbitrary number. We shouldn't let that limit us.

I think I'd keep the 1M bonuses for the LCS and SS rounds - you're still beating someone outside of your division/league.

From there, it's just a matter of what balance you want for the 1st through 4th payoffs. If you stick with the 23M figure (which again, is completely arbitrary), each divisional pool is getting back 3M from the interdivisional rounds. You could break that down like:

    1st - 3M (+2.2M)
    2nd - 1.25M ( +650K)
    3rd - 500k (+100k)
    4th - 250k (+50k)

Just one possibility (everyone gets a little additional, but 2nd and especially 1st benefit considerably more). The balance can be discussed.

I like C's proposal, but I'd probably vote for $500K for the LCS win, and distribute that extra $1 million savings to the regular season finish.

I don't think the SS win should pay out the same as an LCS win.

I'm all for incentiving finishing higher, but I like winning the SS being more valuable than winning the LCS. $500K for winning the LCS, and $1M for the SS?

IF we do 500K to the league champs. then an additional $1M to the SS champ. cuervo will need to amend his proposal to put the extra 1M back in the system. Otherwise, looks good to me.

    Cuervo's 1-4 numbers looked good:

    1st $3.25 million
    2nd - $ 1.5
    3rd - $ .5
    4th - $ .25

    Playoffs:
    LCS winners: $500K each
    SS winner: $1 million

I waited 'til now so nobody thinks my team is looking to steal a quick payday this season.
If we finish 1st and this goes into effect this season, it'll all go back into the welfare pool anyway.

Adjust Doc's numbers down to 3.15 and 1.35 for 1st and second, and we'll be balanced to make it easier on cuervo and the financial spreadsheet.
