    Default Talent Change Randomness change

This isn't an amendment issue but I put it here anyway.

We currently have the "Talent Change Randomness" setting at 100 (the default).

    Per the OOTP manual:

The Talent Change Randomness option is a numeric value from 1 to 200 that controls how random player talent changes are. For example, a 200 here would mean that talent changes are highly random, making it more likely that players would experience significant changes in talent over the course of their career. Tweak this if necessary if you feel that player talent changes are either too drastic or too conservative. 100 is the default.
Any support for tweaking this upward a little, perhaps to 125, to give us a bit more boom and bust activity? I'd like to see more late-round stars.

    Shaw, for FAC randomness. Huh.

Not against the idea, but would want 2-3 seasons of advanced warning for a change like this as it greatly impacts the value of picks (lowers 1st round values, increases later round values).

Edit: I'm sure this had nothing to do with your suggestion, but Hollywood had 13 round 3-5 picks this draft . Hey, it was worth a try.

I thought it cut both ways... I'll have multiple 1st round picks next year and plan to draft in the top 3 the next 4 seasons. So I'm at risk for a huge bust too.

I agree with the lag time.

Yeah, now that I look at it, this seems like blatant opportunism on my part now that I'm rebuilding. Sorry, I had been thinking about this for a while along with the injury issue and didn't stop to consider how it looks.

He's getting back to simming after a season off, he has pent-up energies. Let him get them out of his system.

If anything, I'm in favor of less randomness, not more. Even as a guy that loaded up on lower picks this draft.

I'm in favor of "no more than current" randomness, not more. Even as a guy that loaded up on higher picks this draft and next.

As noted by Doc in the other thread, we already have a bunch of high pick prospects getting smacked with the dev ugly stick, which is demoralizing enough for a lot of owners. Hell, my early 2nd rounder this year already took a dev hit on the first sim after I drafted the motherfucker.

Also, it's not like we don't have a decent amount of Brad Phillips miracles in the other direction - they just don't get pointed out as often as the shitburger dev assassinations.

That's actually my preferred choice as well. (Which is why I started that off with "if anything"...)

I'm super 1!!! Although he still has good ratings despite the hits. I hope he can last a bit longer with it.

Perhaps this has been discussed already, but in case it has not this is worth bringing up for any dev related discussion: There was a new 'feature' in OOTP13 that allows the display of lower talent ratings when a players talent was less than his current ratings. I don't believe the OOTP dev engine changed (except for no injury related dev hits), I think this was simply a display option change. Anyway, dev change utilities would not have noticed the new wave of negative dev we can see today, but now we know there is a whole lot more bad OOTP dev for younger players than we previously realized.

Here is an extreme example of this new game display feature:
    http://www.thefobl.com/news/html/pla...yer_13069.html

In this example the current ratings have dropped too, but they are still pretty high and may or may not drop quickly. The ratings drop speed varies from player to player. Some players seem to be able to hang around for a few seasons, maybe even longer, before having completely gutted current ratings. Other players have their current ratings drop within a few weeks.

In past versions of OOTP we would have seen the current ratings drop first for a player like this, so he would have been a player with current ratings/talent of 8/8-8/8-8/8 instead of OOTP13's 8/6-8/6-8/4. That's how the dev utilities would have reported the changes as well.

You might not see examples quite as extreme as this on your team, but I'm sure there will still be many examples of this new display logic for players on every FOBL team, and it is especially noticeable for younger players. Note that positive dev for 17-25 year olds would not be impacted by this OOTP13 display change, since OOTP has always displayed higher talent ratings. Again, this means there is a whole lot more negative OOTP dev applied to young players than we previously knew about, and as a result I'd recommend we keep our rookie generation modifiers high for the rookie draft, and probably refrain from increasing the talent randomness.

Should we change the current/future display back to the old way, I wonder?
